When we started designing our flagship 60 cm built-in machine, we set one hard target: it had to be quiet enough to run during dinner.
Most dishwashers in its price class sit around 47-49 dB(A). In an open-plan kitchen that's enough to make you wait until bedtime to start a cycle.
We attacked the problem from three directions. First, a brushless inverter motor that ramps smoothly instead of switching hard on and off. Second, a stainless tub wrapped in a bituminous damping layer and a second insulating blanket. Third, re-profiled spray arms and sump so water moves without the slap and gurgle that gives most machines their signature noise.
The result is 41 dB(A) across the eco cycle — quiet enough that you'll check the indicator light to be sure it's running.
